Six Decades…Again

The Ironton High School Million Dollar Marching Band joined Boy Scout Troop 106 and Cub Scout Pack 106, of Central Christian Church in a re-dedication ceremony commemorating the refurbishing of the Statue of Liberty on the Lawrence County Courthouse lawn in a ceremony Saturday afternoon. It was 60 years ago, when these same groups honored the original dedication to the same Lady. The Ironton High School Million Dollar Marching Band was honored to participate in the unveiling of our Lady. The statue was resurrected in 1951.

USS Intrepid

The IHS Million Dollar Marching Band performed in Manhattan aboard the USS Intrepid. Not many people can say they performed live in NYC… Not many people can say they gathered a fan base in NYC… Not many people can say that while they performed in NYC aboard the USS Intrepid, while gathering a fan base… that they stopped New Yorkers in their tracks so they could listen… But this band can! Congratulations to the IHS Million Dollar Band for their successful trip and outstanding performance in NYC!

NEW YORK CITY TRIP 2011

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the itinerary change?

More than likely. Several items on the itinerary are time specific, but much of the itinerary is flexible to suit time and weather.

How much money should I bring?

Spending money should be at your discretion and there are only four fast food-style meals that you need to pay for. The tour company suggests $100-$200.

Can we have food on the bus?

YES! But, drinks must be in bottles with caps and everyone should clean up after themselves.

Can we watch movies on the bus?

Yes, but the selection must be school appropriate and is at the discretion of the directors.

How much luggage can we have?

Luggage is limited to one carry-on and one suitcase. We are only in a hotel for two nights and we need room on the bus for our marching band instruments and uniforms.

What should I pack?

COMFORTABLE SHOES! We will be doing a lot of walking. Also regular, comfortable clothes and DEODERANT! — It’s a long bus ride! The average temperature for New York in March-April is 53°, so I would not bring shorts and I would bring a jacket – especially for the day at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. It is VERY windy on the Upper Bay.

Please bring non-jeans, non-t-shirt clothes for the Broadway play.

DON’T FORGET MARCHING BAND SHOES, SOCKS, GLOVES, ETC.

What goes on at the hotel?

We will be in the hotel two nights, and both are late arrivals. Everyone will be expected to report to their rooms and be checked-in by Mr. Sanders. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE YOUR ROOM AFTER CHECK-IN. You may leave your room for breakfast at 6:00 am. There will be night security monitoring the hallways.

Can we swim?

No. The only available pool is outdoors and does not open until Memorial Day weekend.

Can we order food at the hotel?

No. Hotel options such as movies, room service, and telephone calls outside of the hotel will be disabled. No one is to order outside food. Once we are checked-in for the night, that is it.

Do we have to go to school on Tuesday?

YES. Tuesday is a regular day and everyone is expected to attend school.
